Below is our schedule of 2013 L1 classes and training opportunities.
Every new member starts with Level 1 classes. We offer West side or East side classes. You must be 16 years or older to take the class and 18 or older to get a sailpass.
ASI offers classes and boats at Four different Levels.
From 18ft Interlakes on Kent and Stony Lakes to 28 and 30 footers for Timeshares on Lake St Clair and up north in the North Channel.
Come visit us at one of our ports at Kenington Metro Park, Stony Creek Metro Park or with advanced classes at Jefferson Beach Marina.
Please call the ASI Sail Secretary, Lisa , at 248-393-4280 anytime or in person Monday through Friday from 9 am – 11 am (or leave your name and number) for a Registration Form, fees and answers to any questions regarding classes.

Kent Lake Classes (above):
Intro Class and Water Class for “K” classes held at the East Boat Launch at Kensington Metro Park (Kent Lake Road entrance). Shore School for Groups 1K-5K will be held at the Oakland Center, Wayne State University, 33737 West 12 Mile Road. Room numbers will be posted at the entrance.

Stony Creek Classes (above):
Intro classes and Water Class for “S” classes held at Stony Creek Lake. Shore School for Groups 1S and 3S will be held at the Warren Public/Civic Center Library, One City Square Suite 100, Warren, MI 48093.
Interlake Maintenance Classes for All Students
The Interlake Maintenance Class for Level 1 Students from all classes is offered on the first and third Saturday of June, August, and September, and the third Saturday of July, from 9 AM to 1 PM at the Kensington Metro Park East Boat Launch. There will also be an Interlake Maintenance Class at Stony Creek on Saturday, July 27, 2013.
Docking and Capsize Workshops
In order to provide additional opportunities for students and rated members to improve their skills, ASI offers workshops in two vital skills: docking and capsize recovery. All these workshops take place at Kensington Metro Park at Kent Lake East Boat Launce. The tentative schedule for 2012 appears below.
July 20, 2013 Workshops: Docking 9 am – noon
Capsize: noon – 2 pm
August 24, 2013 Workshops: Docking 9 am – noon
Capsize: noon – 2 pm
US Sailing Small Boat Certification
ASI offers US Sailing Small Boat Certification. Requirements include ASI Level 1 Rating, one year sailing experience and passing the US Sailing water test (including an actual capsize recovery). For information see www.sailasi.org or call the ASI office for an application. There is a $25.00 fee payable to ASI for the test plus the additional cost of US Sailing certification (payable directly to US Sailing).
