    Welcome to ASI.
We're very glad that you joined us!

Sailing is about getting your head and your body in tune with
nature. It’s fun and easy, yet always challenging. You are
going to find that ASI instructors are experts at sailing, and at
    teaching others to sail.

Whether you were an experienced sailor prior to joining ASI
or are learning with us, you're going to appreciate the unique
aspects of the ASI sailing experience. Here is an opportunity
to improve your skills while sailing a variety of boats. They
range from small centerboard boats on inland Michigan lakes,
to well-equipped sailing yachts on Lake St. Clair, Lake Huron,
Lake Erie, Georgian Bay, Lake Michigan and the North
    Channel, Ontario.

Because all ASI members share the fun and the responsibility
for boat maintenance, you make friends and learn new skills
while spending relatively few hours working on the boats.
Since ASI prohibits single-handed sailing, you’ll always have
someone to sail with, and whom you can share your sailing
    experience with.

Opportunities for service in our all-volunteer organization
include maintaining the boats and providing instruction, plus
many other types of work. Our instructors’ training program
will prepare you to share your knowledge with others who
want to learn to sail. Instructors have the added joy of seeing
people who knew nothing about sailing become competent
sailors under their tutelage. For many of us, our instructional
program provides the most rewarding part of the program.

Others take great pride in keeping the boats 'ship-shape'.
Don’t be shy about asking questions of your instructors. In
most cases, they can answer them. When they can’t, they will
refer you to the right person who can - then both of you will
    know the answer!
